Audible Cone Alert Systems, Inc.

WHY WE EXIST

Why AudibleCone™ Exists

Every year, workers are injured or killed in environments where vehicles and people operate in close proximity.

Despite training, PPE, and planning, these incidents continue to occur, often when attention is divided or compliance fails.

AudibleCone™ exists because worker safety should not rely solely on driver attention.

AudibleCone™ is intended to augment existing safety practices. It does not eliminate risk or replace responsibility.

A Moment That Changed Perspective

Nearly a decade ago, the founder of Audible Cone Alert Systems, Inc. was working as an incident responder at a nighttime road construction site in eastern Oregon.

Earlier that evening, he spoke with a flagger managing traffic around a remote work zone. The setup was compliant. Cones were in place. PPE was worn. Procedures were followed.

Less than an hour later, a vehicle entered the work zone.

The worker was struck and pinned, suffering fatal injuries as a result of the intrusion.

The incident occurred within established rules and procedures. It still resulted in loss.

Reported vehicle speed was under 12 mph, underscoring that intrusion risk is not limited to high-speed environments and may occur even in reduced-speed or controlled work zones.

When Systems Depend on Attention

That incident reinforced a difficult reality.

Even well-intended safety systems rely heavily on driver behavior and human attention. These are variables that can break down, particularly in environments affected by distraction, fatigue, or complexity.

The question became clearer over time.

What happens when barriers are in place, but attention breaks down?

The Problem Is Broader Than One Incident

Roadway and roadside work remains among the most dangerous occupational environments. Serious injuries and fatalities continue to occur even as training, equipment, and standards improve.

These risks extend beyond construction activities and include:

The common factor across these environments is vehicles operating near people.

Our Core Beliefs

A Safety Net, Not a Single Solution

Alerting Personnel

Workers may receive audible and tactile (wearable device) active alerts when a deployed cone-mounted sensor is impacted.

Barriers

Physical barriers and traffic control devices remain essential and unchanged.

Collaboration

Safety improves when people, procedures, and technology work together.

What AudibleCone™ Is and Is Not

AudibleCone™ is intended to augment existing safety measures, not replace them.

The system does not eliminate risk, guarantee outcomes, or remove responsibility from organizations or workers.

It exists to introduce an active alert layer within existing safety frameworks.

A Long-Term Commitment to Safety

AudibleCone™ is committed to responsible deployment, measured evaluation, and continuous improvement.

Trust is earned over time through transparency, restraint, and respect for the realities of safety-critical work.
